after|thought (2013)

after|thought is an art exhibition that examines how the ‘institution’ works to represent what has been constructed as a pivotal event in Singapore’s history – 9 August 1965, the date of Singapore’s separation from the Federation of Malaysia. Here the state museum, media and mass education are isolated as mediums through which we understand the issue of representation. Through the discussion of these three examples of the ‘institution’, after|thought ponders how information and memories of 9 August 1965 are consumed and negotiated by a contemporary generation.

Closure (2013)

CLOSURE was the first exhibition of Free of Charge Artshow (FOCA) . It  houses a collection of multi-views that negotiated the situation of Singapore’s cityscape as one in a perpetual state of re-construction. 8 different creatives responded to the notion of progress/loss through change in their own ways in an old flat at its final stage of en-bloc at Teban Gardens.
Free of Charge Artshow (FOCA) is a collective that addresses shifting concerns vis-a-vis dominant cultural discourse, by way of documentation, dialogue and community building.

re:union (2013)

re:union engages the realm of recollection of personal and collective moment - the separation, search and observations of liminal states between the individual and society. Through reuniting works of Nanyang Technological University's School of Art, Design and Media photography majors (2010 - 2012), re:union shares the evolution of their introspective narratives to date, revealing a collective subconscious of the everyday.

LIMINAL STATE (2016)

The story of Singapore is embedded with many turns and victories. Yet, caught in the state of progress, one wonders if not wanders into a silent reverie – what has passed or is to come? The impending doom and ambiguity of change plague the temporary landscape as one is left hanging in the moment of short historicity. In such contemporary times, uncertainty gives way to new perspective.
Liminal State attempts to delve into the psyches and artistic wanderings of 5 emerging contemporary artists - Eunice Lim, Ezekiel Wong Kel Win, Lavender Chang, Leonard Yang and Stephanie Burt - in hopes of ambitiously representing the rhythm and holistic identity of Singapore.

Liminal State is a portrayal of social issues, dreams, existentialism, memories and the immortality of the everyday aspects of Singapore.
